what is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a psychotherapeutic treatment used to change negative behaviours. It involves communication with the unconscious mind using people's own inner resources to address behaviours which can be difficult to resolve on their own. We achieve communication with the negative behaviours by becoming deeply relaxed and talking through steps and ideas that allow you to change those behaviours.
There are a wide variety of techniques that can be used during hypnotherapy, these are adapted acording to the individual and what is trying to be achieved. Often we will use visulisation of relaxing scenes and metaphorical stories which appeal to the subconscious mind. Methods such as anchoring allowing people to take the positivity found inside the therapy room and put it into action when out in the real world.

'Hypno' comes from the greek word for sleep, and for this reason, along with the fact that people who receive hypnotherapy can appear to be sleeping, hypnosis has long been associated with sleep. This however is not the case. Hypnosis is more a state of relaxed concentration where the mind can think clearly and with focus away from the distractions of everyday thought.
Hypnotherapy has been gradually gaining acceptance from the more coventional areas of health provision. In particular stress management and Irritable Bowel Syndrome have been acknowledged as improving after hypnotherapy treatment, but many other areas including depression and confidence are regularly improved through good quality programmes.

Hypnotherapy is a relaxing, enjoyable experience where you can take the time and space to distance yourself from your normal surroundings and safely explore your ideas and feelings. In this hectic, modern world where we often do not have the chance to address problems and behaviours that have built up over the years, hypnotherapy is one option that provides powerful, non-invasive treatments for behaviour change that are regularly improving people's lives.
