Weight loss takes time and requires the development of new behaviours and the removal of old ones. Eating and sedentary habits are often developed over a long period of time and have a tendancy to have become deeply ingrained.
Hypnosis utilises behaviour changing techniques to support you in losing weight. It can be helpful to bolster this approach with diet plans allowing you to accurately monitor what you are consuming. When behaviours become habits it can be hard to keep track of your actions.
Hypnotherapy has become popular for weight loss, and indeed as hypnotherapy is concenred with negative behaviour change we can see significant improvements in weight loss over a period of time.
At Sheffield City Hypnotherapy we acknowledge that many conditions, including being overweight can have its origins in factors that are related to stress, and not simply eating too much food. Stress and the treatment of stress is integral to hypnotherapy and one of the most effective areas we can focus upon.
It is massively important for people to have self confidence and to be happy with who and what they are. This sense of good self esteem impacts upon all areas of our lives, if we have confidence in ourselves it allows to be successful and apply our energies in achieving what we want.


In order to provide an effective weight loss treatment, we look at when and why people eat; this will include thinking about environment, which could include socialising, financial, work and the things people associate with their eating. We take these elements and use them to inform the hypnotherapy session often with the use of visualising positive outcomes and success with regards to the program.
We way we think about ourselves is an important element when devising weight loss hypnotherapy treatments. How do we think of ourselves now? How do we want to think of ourselves? Was there a time when we were happy with our weight and what were the factors that led us to changes in behaviour which has resulted in being overweight?
Hypnotherapy gives us the tools to identify what caused and is causing the behaviour which is resulting in being overweight. By addressing these root problems and applying a bespoke hypnotherapy session, we can make positive moves toward weight loss and the positive outcomes that inevitably result.
One often overlooked element of gaining weight is its link to the stress response. Traditionally, when stress hormones are released the asumption of the body is that large amounts of energy are going to be used because we expected to either fight or take flight, both of which require large amounts of sugar (energy) to be pumped into the blood stream to power our muscles. However, these days people are getting stressed but remaining stationary, meaning no energy is being burned off. In addition to this, after the stress response has occured the body then tries to convert all the available energy into storage (fats). From this angle of consideration, attnetion must be paid to the stress element during hypnotherapy. Less stress equals a reduced likeihood of storing sugars as fat.
