 Self Hypnosis

We have hypnotherapy sessions together during our appointment, but what about after your hypnotherapy session? Is there any work you can do independently to contribute to the changes you are making? Self hypnosis can be essential in carrying and reinforcing the work we do together. All you need is some space and quiet time to revisit hypnosis and the hypnotherapy work we have addressed in the therapy room.

The link below will take you to my youtube channel which has music, specifically for hypnotherapy, that can help you achieve trance states. It is advisable not to listen to the recordings when doing something you must consciously concentrate upon, such as driving or operating machinery.

During our hypnotherapy sessions we use something called isochronic tones. This is a particular type of relaxing music often used in hypnotherapy. A tone is woven into the music which oscillates at a specific frequency, or in the case with the ones used by Sheffield City Hypnotherapy, changes as the audio progresses.

The idea behind isochronic tones is that our brain operates at different frequencies. There are four major frequency groups, Beta, Alpha, Theta, and Delta. Although there is also a further Gamma group of which there is some debate.

The Beta frequencies are associated with conscious thought, when we are awake, analysing and rationalising. As we move down through the groups toward Delta the frequencies become more subconscious and the conscious mind becomes less domnant. If the mind is exposed to audio frequencies it attempts to match its own internal frequencies with the external ones it is receiving. This means that by playing frequencies at specific levels we can encourage the trance states associated with the subconscious and move into a state more amenable to hypnotherapy work.

The brain and mind move in and out of these frequency groupings constantly throughout the day depending on our stimuli and how relaxed we feel, so it is a completely natural process to experience. During hypnotherapy we aim to operate within the Theta group, which is close to the state we have during dreaming as this is the most effective range for most hypnotherapy to take place.
