smoking cessation

Most habits are difficult to change, and smoking is no exception. Fortunately, most people are becoming aware of the dangers of smoking and are beginning to think about quitting. This is the first step in the process, and with the assistance of some effective counselling, knowledge around habits and hypnotherapy we can increase the likelihood of permanent and lasting change.

Learned behaviours reside in the subconscious regions of the brain, which is why they are so difficult to change with the conscious mind. Using Hypnotherapy we can communicate with these behaviours and begin to unravel them. When the process of smoking was first being learned it was in the conscious mind and everything from its taste to the feel of the cigarettes was very noticeable, when the process becomes learned we no longer think about it, and this means it is harder to control as it no longer resides in the conscious mind.

Of course smoking is bad for our health and this is often the reason for wanting to stop, along with financial factors. The addictive properties of nicotine help keep people smoking, although there are other important bits of information that are necessary to build a hypnotherapy session; where do you smoke most, and what things make you want to have a cigarette?

It is important to find investigate if there is anything that causes you to continue smoking. If there are other elements in people's lives in which cigarettes are related it is likely that these must be addressed first as the smoking is simply a symptom of the underlying issue.

When putting together your hypnotherapy session there are various techniques we can use similar to aversion therapy and using suggestions that will allow to control your cravings and improve your willpower.

There are a great many physical aiments that arise from smoking. The mind and the body are connected, and as the body begins to suffer this also has a negative affect upon our emotional wellbeing. An improvement of mood often accompanies the quitting process and this sense of control over our actions has positive impacts upon other areas of our lives.

Stopping smoking using hypnotherapy has a high success rate, especially when used in conjunction with thought stopping techniques during periods of craving. When addressing smoking cessation clients are taught skills such as self hypnosis, affirmations, and thought stopping techniques so that their habits can be worked on outside the therapy room.

During hypnotherapy usually our main focus is upon how to change a habit or negative thinking pattern. Our subconscious behaviours are intrinsically anchored into our environment. You may notice that you have developed places that you asscoaite with smoking; a particular space where smokers go at work, walking between two regularly frequented paces, or while drinking. During our hypnotherapy for smoking sessions we also have a focus on generating ideas to break away from the routine environment that reinforce the habit, this gives you a better chance of stopping, and staying that way.
